History of Endowment Fund

It started in 2002 with a bequest of approximately $60,000 from the estate of Isabelle Winter, mother of Arc client Jeff Winter.

Legacy of Hope annual fundraising events began in 2004 and included the Ladies’ Luncheon, the Golf Tournament and the Car Show. Additionally, Avivo Brick Oven Pizzeria initiated an annual fundraising event in 2005.

Major non-cash gifts include a parcel of donated land from the Comotara Neighborhood Association that was sold in 2004 and a 1967 Jaguar XKE from Denny McKee of Rogue River, Oregon that raised $28,000 before it was given away at the 2005 Independence Day Car Show.

The endowment fund has been the beneficiary of two matching grants from the Wichita Community Foundation. In 2004, we received $50,000 for raising $150,000. In 2007, we received $25,000 for raising $75,000. Other Legacy of Hope Endowment major donors ($5,000 and over) include Fidelity Bank, Wal-Mart, the estate of Frances Catt (former Arc Board member), the Jessica Good Evans Charitable Trust, and an anonymous donor at the 2006 Ladies’ Luncheon.

AbilityPoint is a beneficiary of the Starbird-Devlin Rod and Customs Charities Car Show hosted by Cars for Charities Co. Proceeds from this annual fundraising event are helping AbilityPoint continue to grow its Legacy of Hope Endowment Fund.
