Your Vote Matters
Deadline to register to vote is Oct. 15
Those who will be creating bills, writing laws and making funding decisions that can and will impact your life, and those you love, are up for election. Every Senate and House seat in Kansas will be voted on November 5, as well as the Presidential election, Congressional and several local races.
What you should know:
Every vote counts, especially in local and state wide elections.
As an adult (18 & over by Nov 5), with or without a disability you can and should vote.
Even if you have a guardian you can register and vote in Kansas.
There are several ways to vote, so make a plan.
Polling locations are meant to be accessible, but check yours out in advance.
You do need your Kansas issued photo ID to vote.
You do not have to vote for every race. If there is an election with no one you know, you can skip it.
Ways to Vote:
- In person on Election Day, Nov. 5, you must vote at your assigned polling site. You can find your polling location on your voter ID card, or by calling the election office at (316)661-7100.
- On a machine or on paper: Many people opt to use a voting machine with a touch screen to vote, but they do have paper ballots available.
- With assistance: You can bring someone with you if you need assistance reading or completing the information. A poll worker can assist, as well. In both cases, a voter assistance form will be completed at check in.
- Early In-person Voting: Beginning October 21, several locations are open to vote early. These tend to have much shorter lines and you can vote at any of the 20 locations available. Locations and hours of early voting sites can be found here: https://www.sedgwickcounty.org/elections/voting-options/early-voting/
- Advance Mail Ballots: You can request a ballot to be mailed to you to complete at home. You do not need to leave home, but don’t forget to mail or drop your ballot in the signed and sealed envelope at a polling location or an official ballot drop box by Nov 5. Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 5. To receive a mail ballot, you must submit a mail ballot application by Oct. 29. The application can be found here: https://www.sedgwickcounty.org/elections/voting-options/vote-by-mail/
- Curb side- Did you know if you cannot get out of your vehicle there is a curbside option where a poll volunteer can come to your vehicle. When you arrive at the polling site, call the Sedgwick County Election office at (316)660-7100, tell them you are a curbside voter and give them your location. They will send two election workers out to your car to assist.
Important Dates to remember:
- You must register to vote by Oct. 15. If you are already registered but have moved or changed your name, you must update your voter registration by Oct. 15. You can do it online, in person at the election office, or by mail.
- Requesting a mail in ballot must be done by Oct. 29, but plan to do it early so you can receive, complete and return it by Nov 5. All mail ballots must be in by November 5! Whether in person, dropped off or put in the mail, it should be done before polls close on Nov. 5.
